Equine assisted therapy allows us to connect with horses, nature, and a therapist all in one place. Learning from the horse’s wisdom, we can enhance our emotional awareness, become more emotionally regulated, which in turn leads to decreased anxiety and improved mood. Connecting with the horses can boost our self-confidence, improve our social skills, improve our problem-solving skills, improved impulse control, and increase our empathy towards others as we learn to respectfully engage with the horse.
We offer many ways of engaging with the horses, including grooming, obstacle challenges, walking/movement activities and forest/bush walks to name a few.
I have a special interest and experience in treating trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, behavioural challenges, helping people find healthier ways of coping with their emotions including but limited to disordered eating, substance misuse and compulsive and dissociative disorders.
I have had over two decades experience nursing in the mental health field in both Scotland and Australia, in the public and private health sectors, within the community and within hospital settings. This has given me experience with a wide variety of metal health diagnoses, developing a passion for a holistic approach to mental wellness.
I have undertaken extra studies in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Professional Development training with Spectrum. Some of my previous roles have included group therapy facilitation, and senior nursing roles.
Together we can help you make healthy changes and forge a brighter future.
